COLUMBUS - State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) was sworn in recently as a member of the Ohio Senate in the 135th General Assembly. He represents the 20th District, which includes Fairfield and Licking Counties and part of Perry County.

"It is a continued honor to represent the people of the 20th Senate District," Schaffer said. "I eagerly look forward to working with my colleagues to continue to make Ohio a fantastic place to live and work."

Schaffer returns to the Ohio General Assembly as a veteran legislator having served in both the Ohio House of Representatives and the Ohio Senate. Schaffer has championed many legislative issues including small business development, protecting the Second Amendment, implementing tax cuts for Ohioans, shielding vulnerable populations from predators, and supporting law enforcement and first responders.

The opening ceremony can be viewed on OhioChannel.org. The 135th Ohio General Assembly will run through Dec. 31, 2024.

Schaffer held a perfect attendance record for the 134th General Assembly, not missing any votes, Senate sessions, committee hearings, or meetings throughout the year.“Showing up for my district and the people who I represent is something I take very seriously and have pride in,” Schaffer said on his perfect attendance. “I am thankful for the opportunity to continue to represent them in the years to come.”During the 134th General Assembly, Senator Schaffer chaired the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee and co-chaired the Public Assistance Benefits Accountability Task Force. Included among the many bills sponsored by Senator Schaffer in the 134th General Assembly was Senate Bill 16. This legislation enhanced protections for first responders and their families, codified Ohioans’ Second Amendment rights during a declared emergency, added mandatory sentencing for the crime of importuning a minor, expanded our statewide emergency alert system, and more. Senate Bill 16 was passed by both the House of Representatives and the Senate with strong bipartisan support and has been sent to Governor DeWine for signing.
