News Briefs: SWAT team arrest Chillicothe man for drugs

CHILLICOTHE― The Chillicothe Police SWAT Team arrested a Chillicothe man on Monday while executing a search warrant on 7th Street, according to the Chillicothe Police Department.

Chaz Cain, 35, was arrested on Jan. 9 after the SWAT team, with assistance from the Chillicothe Police Detective and Patrol Division, seized heroin, meth, cocaine, pills, marijuana and cash.

He was charged with aggravated possession of drugs, according to the Chillicothe Police Department.

Additional felony charges pending lab results.

Soil & Water District Annual Tree Sale

CHILLICOTHE - The Ross Soil and Water Conservation District announces the annual tree sale is underway. Residents can order from an assortment of tree seedlings including an expanded selection of pine trees.

People can choose variety packs that offer different seedlings or bulk seedlings of a single species.

The Wildlife Packet includes trees that attract wildlife. The Wet Feet Packet has trees good at absorbing water.Gardeners can also order popular species packets with 25 seedlings for bulk planting, including the popularWhite Pine trees and an expanded selection of other conifers to build wind breaks or privacy groves.

Customers can shop online at www.rosscountyswcd.org or contact the district office for an order form. Thelast day to order trees is Feb. 14. The district offers tree seedlings at near wholesale prices toencourage the benefits of planting trees, such as how strong root systems prevent soil erosion and filterstormwater runoff.

The Ross Soil and Water Conservation District promotes land use practices that prevent soil erosion andprotect water quality. The district provides free technical assistance to landowners implementing conservationpractices through the farm bill or for the CAUV tax program. And the district is engaged in a broad range ofservices related to geographic information systems, residential neighborhood drainage and runoff, wildlife andhabitat.

Public Comment Period Open for

Tar Hollow Resurfacing and Culvert Replacements

CHILLICOTHE – As part of the Ohio Department of Transportation—District 9’s Planning Department, the district’s Environmental Office is seeking public input for a resurfacing and culvert replacement project inside Tar Hollow State Forest in Ross County.

ROS-Forest Roads 10 and 16 (PID: 111274) It is proposed to resurface forest roads 10 and 16. The project will also replace 39 culverts along both roads inside of Tar Hollow State Forrest in Ross County.

No new right-of-way will be needed for the project.

No homes or businesses will be removed by the project.

The roadways will be closed for the duration of the project. The detour will be determined at a later date.

The funding for the project is 100% State.

  • The Ross County Planning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ross County Service Center, Conference Room D located at 475 Western Avenue.

  • The Board of Trustees of Concord Township held its reorganizational meeting electing Brandon Garrison President. Steve Core Vice President and Russell Junk member. Meeting dates will be the third Tuesday of each month, 7 p.m. at the township firehouse in Frankfort.
