Walleye Festival seeking vendors for May

PORT CLINTON - The Main Street Port Clinton Board of Directors and the Walleye Festival Committee announces an official “Call for Merchandise Vendors” for the 42nd Annual Walleye Festival held over Memorial Day weekend, May 25 to May 29.

Nicole Kochensparger, Program Manager of Port Clinton Main Street, announced many past vendors are interested in returning. “We wanted to reach out to vendors within the region early, since space is filling up quickly”. Again this year, members of the Port Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce receive a 10% discount on their vendor space.

Fremont Lions to meet Feb. 7

FREMONT - The Fremont Lions Club will meet at noon, Tuesday, Feb. 7 at the Fremont Eagles Hall.  Guest speaker is Bruce Chambers from the Drone Academy at Tiffin University.

On Feb. 21, Sandusky County Commissioners Charlie Schwochow, Scott Miller and Russ Zimmerman will be the guest speakers along with the Students of the Month from Fremont Ross and St. Joseph High Schools.

Fremont Lions will host a Zone meeting for area clubs at 6 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Victor Center with a taco bar followed by the meeting at 7 p.m. The service project for that meeting will be donations of items for Community Fortress in Fremont. Bradner legion to hold baked steak dinner

BRADNER - On Sunday, Feb. 5, the Bradner American Legion will be serving baked steak at the Post, 209 West Cracker St. Call to reserve a meal to 419-288-3634. Cost is $10.. Menu is a steak, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy optional, drink and desert. Serving starts at 11:30 a.m. and runs unitl 1 p.m. or sold out.

Law firm announces initiative for Whirlpool workers

CLYDE - An Alabama law firm has announced an initiative to assist Whirlpool plant employees who worked at the plant before 1981 and were diagnosed with various cancers. The workers are entitled to special benefits, according to Robert Norris of Norris Injury Lawyers in Birmingham, Ala.

Norris said in a press release that "asbestos-laced products were used for decades at Whirlpool" and noted that asbestos has been linked to a wide range of cancers.

Cancer victims or the families of deceased victims who worked at the plant before 1981 may call 800-478-9578 for a free evaluation of their claim. Additional information is available at getnorris.com/asb.

Visit Wilson Nature Center for Winter Science Fest

LINDSEY - Winter Science Fest will be held at the Creek Bend Farm: Wilson Nature Center, 720 S. Main St., from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5. This family-friendly event will feature several winter science experiment stations and snacks. Learn how birds are waterproof, the benefits of blubber, how magnets work and the best way to insulate ice. The Sandusky County Park District will also have hot chocolate, popcorn and s'mores. Registration is not required.
