Deadline set for political letters

Those who wish to write Letters to the Editor pertaining to the Nov. 7 General Election issues and races must submit them for consideration by 9 a.m. Oct. 30 to The News-Messenger or News Herald.

Letters are limited to 300 words and must include the writer's name, city and a phone number. The news staff will call to confirm the letter with the writer. Only the person's name and city will appear in print with the letter.

Sandusky County Health Board to meet Friday

FREMONT - The Sandusky County Board of Health will meet at 8:30 a.m. Friday at 2000 Countryside Drive. On the agenda is a presentation on Modern Marijuana Awareness, the award of a $27,500 grant from Ohio Traffic Safety and the award of $80,000 for creating a Healthy Communities Program. There also will be an update by the levy committee.

Wreaths Across America committee adds more veterans graves

OAK HARBOR - The Ottawa County Wreath Committee announced it will bring Wreaths Across America to the veteran graves in Clay Township and Allen Township cemeteries on Dec. 16. With public assistance, the committee will place more than 1,000 remembrance wreaths at the final resting place of our Ottawa County heroes.

The committee would also like to include the more than 600 veterans interred in the Marblehead area cemeteries of Clemmons, St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic, Lockwood, Sackett, St. Joseph's Catholic, Russian Orthodox, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wolcott, Hartshorn, and Battefield.

The committee is close to being able to cover these cemeteries too but need help. The committe needs to raise another $2,800 to complete this mission. To sponsor a wreath or make a tax deductible donation of any amount, mail donations to Wreaths Across America and mail to 8444 W. Ohio 163, Oak Harbor, 43449. Those with questions, should contact committee member Sara Toris at the Ottawa County Veterans Service Office, 419-898-2089.

Perch and Pierogies dinner set for Friday

MARBLEHEAD - The St. Joseph-Marblehead Knights of Columbus will have Lake Erie Yellow Perch and Pierogies dinners available to the public from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at the St Joseph Church Hall, 822 Barclay St. Dinners are $21.95 and sandwiches are $9.95. Sides will be available as well. Available for eating in or carry-out. Proceeds will benefit the Ottawa County Holiday Bureau of Danbury Township.

Holiday activities list to be published

The News-Messenger and News Herald is creating a list of holiday activities from Thanksgiving through New Year's Day for publication Thanksgiving weekend.

Groups, businesses, churches and organizations holding craft shows, open houses, special services and holiday-themed activities in Sandusky and Ottawa counties should send announcements to fre-newsdesk@gannett.com or pcnewsdesk.com by Nov. 7 (election day). There is no cost for this announcement, but space could become limited as the deadline approaches.
