News briefs: Youth Advisory Committee awards grants to 14 organizations

LANCASTER - The Fairfield County Foundation’s Board of Trustees and the Youth AdvisoryCommittee of 2022-2023 awarded grants totaling $15,000 to 14 organizations to benefit youth inFairfield County.

  • AHA! A Hands-on Adventure, A Children's Museum for storage and supplies to reestablish amakerspace.

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Fairfield County to purchase a Cricut easy press, vinyl and shirts forcreative match activities.

  • Canal Winchester Human Services to purchase games, art activities, food, and pool passes forFairfield County youth during summer outreach events.

  • Decorative Arts Center of Ohio to purchase supplies for youth summer art camps.

  • Destination Downtown Lancaster to purchase movie rights for free movies to show indowntown Lancaster for kids and families in the community.

  • Fairfield County Strings and Keyboards to purchase new scores for musical performances.

  • FairHope Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc to purchase books and journals for grieving teens.

  • Geneva Hills Group, Inc to purchase a water slide for their pool.

  • Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland Council, Inc to purchase day camp supplies and t-shirts.

  • Lancaster Fresh Market, Inc/Keller Market House to support free produce tokens for kids toexchange for items of their choice at the 2023 Farmers Market.

  • Ohio Glass Museum to purchase equipment for their student fused-glass program.

  • Robert K. Fox Family YMCA to purchase balls, crafts, jump ropes and other summer equipmentto be used during summer camp.

  • Vineyard Food Pantry to purchase art supplies for youth outreach at the food pantry.

The Fairfield County Foundation Youth Advisory Committee was established in 2018 to empowerFairfield County high school students through leadership and community service. Participants have theopportunity to get involved in projects that support initiatives for youth in their own communities andgain real-world experience, with responsibilities for reviewing submissions, completing site visits andpresenting recommendations to the Board of Trustees.

The 20-person committee, which changes each year, is made up of juniors and seniors from across thecounty. Nine of the 11 Fairfield County High Schools were represented in the committee this year.

Fairfield County Foundation announces Cycle 1 grant recipients

LANCASTER – The Fairfield County Foundation recently announced the recipients for the first ofthree grant cycles in 2023. The Foundation awarded grants totaling $224,550 to 16 local organizations attheir March Board meeting.

Meetings

The Fairfield County Transportation District will hold a special TID Board Meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, at the Fairfield County Records Center; 138 West Chestnut Street; Lancaster. The purpose of this special meeting is to discuss legal counsel.
