CHILLICOTHE— Zane Trace FFA students have been hard at work recently winning a banner in state competitions and creating blankets for children in need.

Five members of the Zane Trace Agriculture Issues Forum CDE team finished in 4th place in the state finals this year. The Zane Trace team researched the issue of meat processing access in Southern Ohio and presented their forum to five community groups in order to qualify. This helped students to build their public speaking and teamwork skills. With their win, the team became the first banner-winning CDE from Zane Trace since 2018.

FFA students also worked together to create 25 no-sew blankets to donate to Children's Hospital. Members of the Blankets for Babies committee worked together during their lunch and free periods to make these fleece blankets. A current FFA freshman, Jenica Ballard, felt a special connection to the project as she remembers being given a fleece blanket as a child during a visit to Children’s Hospital. Materials for the blankets were purchased with proceeds from the FFA Sausage Breakfast. Blankets will be delivered to Children’s Hospital by members of the new officer team this summer.

City announces community yard sale dates

CHILLICOTHE — The city of Chillicothe will expand its annual community yard sale to occur in conjunction with the city's large item pickup. This means the community yard sale will occur for five weekends.

Community yard sales will occur the week before residents' large item pick up. As usual, those who wish to participate on the correct weekend will have their permit fee waived. Those holding a yard sale on a weekend that does not correspond to their large item pick up should still pay the $5 fee.

This change is intended to allow residents to easily dispose of non-sold items immediately after their scheduled weekend. By spreading out yard sale weekends, we also hope that residents will be able to visit more sales.

Here is the schedule for yard sale and large item pick-up:

Monday trash pick-up — Yard sale: June 3-5; large item pick-up: June 6-10

Tuesday trash pick-up — Yard sale: June 10-12; large item pick-up: June 13-17

Wednesday trash pick-up – Yard sale: June 17-19; large item pick-up: June 20-24

Thursday trash pick-up — June 24-26; large item pick-up: June 27-July 1

Friday trash pick-up — July 1-3; large item pick-up: July 4-8
