News flash: Taking out the trash is important too

It's something we hear all the time: "Why don't you guys ever cover good news?" "Why do you always have to write about the bad stuff?"

Well, first of all, bad stuff happens. But we certainly don't ignore good news either.

What we to do is cover the most important, relevant and interesting things happening in our communities on a daily basis. To be sure, it can be a tough juggling act; largely because Palm Beach County is so a broad, diverse and active.

In fact, our journalists have routinely joked over the years that our county sometimes feels like the nexus of all realities. But when it comes down to it, we try to cover what we believe is most important to, and for residents of our various, and varied communities.

And yes, it can be something as eye-opening as the county's frustratingly high number of homicides in 2021; especially those by gunfire. Or something as seemingly mundane as a Jupiter contractor's plans for a 50% increase in trash fees. The way we see it, both of of those types of stories carry a great deal of importance in their own way. The former is an obvious threat to your family's safety and security. The latter is an obvious threat to your pocketbook.

And we do this over and over again. When we break down why your FPL bill is going way up this year. When we explain that despite ongoing difficulties, the new owner-operator of the county's most significant facility for the homeless is still moving ahead with plans to get itself on track. When West Palm Beach officials finally agree on plans for the last big empty parcel of land on the most heavily traveled thoroughfare in its busy downtown.

We do this every day, with the support of our subscribers. Post reporters and photographers are always out there looking, covering, questioning. You can see more of their work from the past week below.

I hope you enjoy and continue to support local journalism. We're grateful, and we'll make more.

And by the way, tell a friend.
