News-Herald high school basketball awards show set for March 21 at Hooley Pub & Kitchen

Mar. 6—The highest awards in News-Herald basketball will be given out on Tuesday, March 21 at a special edition of the Varsity Chalk Talk Show at The Hooley Pub & Kitchen, 7861 Reynolds Road, Mentor.

The boys basketball player of the year, named the Clark Kellogg Award after the legendary player from St. Joseph who went on to star at Ohio State in the NBA, will be featured along with the girls basketball player of the year, named the Kaayla Chones Award after the Ohio Ms. Basketball who went on to star at North Carolina State and play in the WNBA.

Additionally, coaches of the year in both boys and girls basketball will be announced.

Finalists for all the awards will be announced next week.

"The awards show at Hooley Pub & Kitchen is a culmination of a season's worth of hard work and success stories from the area's girls and boys basketball programs," said John Kampf of The News-Herald. "We're excited for this year's event and look forward to honoring the players and coaches that helped make this season such a memorable one."

In addition, Kampf said, "many thanks go out to Hooley Pub & Kitchen and Bill Tilton of Varsity Chalk Talk for working with us on many ventures and helping to bring to light the athletic accomplishments of our young student-athletes."

A capacity crowd is expected, so those wishing to attend are encouraged to call Hooley Pub & Kitchen for reservations as the March 21 event draws closer. Tables for finalists and their families have already been reserved.
