May 19—Clare Peterson

Gilmour>>Softball

Junior>>Outfielder, pitcher, infielder

On the diamond: Batted 5-for-7 with a 1.571 slugging percentage. Had three doubles, a home run, four RBI and four runs scored. Her catch and throw sealed a sectional final win over higher-seeded Columbiana.

Off the diamond: "CP" is a Concord Township resident. "My favorite softball memory from my high school career thus far has to be when we beat Mentor last year. The energy was unmatched between the girls on the bench, parents in the stands, and (of course) the coaches given that it was The Battle of the Bondras." Has been a competitive gymnast since age 7 and has been on Gilmour's gymnastics team since her freshman year.

Senior>>Pitcher, catcher, outfielder

On the diamond: Pitched a complete-game shutout with 15 strikeouts against Lakeside to clinch the CVC championship, which Chagrin has won every year since 2017. Lowered his ERA to 0.648.

Off the diamond: Will study biochemistry on a pre-med track and play baseball at Mount Union. Has been playing baseball since before he can remember and is a huge fan of the Guardians. "My favorite baseball memories include going to Cooperstown Dreams Park when I was 12, playing at Progressive Field, and winning the district championship last year." Also loves fishing and playing ultimate frisbee. Favorite music is country. Favorite show is "Breaking Bad." Is a three-time spelling bee champion.

On the diamond: In a win over Lake Catholic, pitched a complete game, with zero earned runs and 13 strikeouts in an 8-6 win. At the plate for the week, was 6-for-9 with two walks, two doubles, three runs scored, a .727 OBP and three stolen bases.

Off the diamond: "Javy" will play baseball at Ohio State. His favorite sports memories are "playing varsity basketball and baseball as a freshman, traveling the country in the summer to face top competition and hitting my first home run." Enjoys playing spikeball, taking late-night drives, playing music with friends and collecting rare shoes. Can juggle well. Favorite food is chicken and rice.

On the diamond: Batted 11-for-16 with two doubles, two triples, two home runs, seven runs, six RBI and one stolen base.

Off the diamond: "My favorite sports memory is my team winning the WRC last year." Favorite subject is math. Loves Sheetz's curly fries.

Jake Vasil

Senior>>Pitcher, first base

On the diamond: Helped Kenston win five games. Against Chardon, pitched six innings, giving up one earned run and striking out six. Batted 9-for-15 with eight RBI, one walk, four doubles, two stolen bases, a hit by pitch and five runs scored.

Off the diamond: Will play baseball at Lake Erie College. Enjoys going to get food with the boys after practices and games. Also enjoys playing video games. Favorite food is pasta. Favorite movie is "Shrek." Favorite team is the Browns. Favorite show is "Family Guy." His favorite sports memory is when his dad coached his baseball team.

On the diamond: In five victories, batted 13-for-17 with an .810 OBP, had five stolen bases, two triples, one home run, 10 runs scored and 13 RBI.

Off the diamond: "AK" will play softball at Ashland University. Her favorite sports memory is Riverside's trip to Myrtle Beach this year. Hobbies include hanging out with friends and art. Favorite subject is math. Her favorite food is macaroni and cheese.

Sophomore>>Sprints, relays

On the track: At the NEO All-Catholic meet, anchored come-from-behind victories in the 4×200 and 4×100 relays. Took second in the 200 with a personal-bet 25:56.

Off the track: Bedford resident's favorite sports memory is going to the state meet in 2021. Loves spending time with friends and family.

Franky Laneve

NDCL>>Boys Lacrosse

Senior>>Attacker

On the field: Scored 13 goals and had nine assists in wins over Benedictine and Lake Catholic. Helped the Lions finish 9-7.

Off the field: "Franky" will study finance at Indiana University. "I have played lacrosse since third grade with some of my teammates now. My favorite memories were winning the playoff game last year and beating Lake by 20 this year."
