NEWCOMERSTOWN — Mayor Pat Cadle thanked members of the Street Department for their response to damaging storms that swept through the area overnight Monday into Tuesday, June 13-14.

“In the aftermath of Monday night's storm, we are lucky in comparison to other communities near us,” Mayor Cadle noted. “Port Washington and Gnadenhutten both had much more damage from the winds and fallen trees. Our worst damage was in our cemeteries at West Lawn and State Street. Scott Drive, McKinley Avenue and Chapman Street had parts of trees to remove. Our Street Department started at 5:30 a.m. and did a great job picking up debris and cutting up the fallen trees.”

The mayor said residents could put fallen branches on the curb strip to be picked up through June 19.

“If you have a lot of debris, please contact us and we can arrange a place for you to take it,” the mayor said. He also suggested residents check on elderly or handicapped neighbors to see if they need help.
