Starting Monday, print editions of the News-Messenger will be delivered to customers through the U.S. Postal Service, a move that was announced last month.

The switch to same-day delivery of the paper through the mail was necessitated by the ongoing challenges that have made delivery increasingly difficult using traditional newspaper carriers.

"We believe the switch to same-day mail delivery will help ensure that our readers receive their newspapers on a consistent and reliable basis," said Editor David Yonke.

Despite efforts to recruit and retain newspaper carriers by offering increased compensation and signing bonuses, print delivery by carrier has not met the high standards we set for serving our customers.

There will be no reduction in the number of print editions. The News-Messenger will continue to be published six days a week, Monday through Saturday, as it has been for many years.

We are confident readers will appreciate having their newspaper delivered to their mailbox by their postal carriers.

While it might mean a change in routine for some readers, it also presents an opportunity to take full advantage of the online, digital offerings that are included with all print subscriptions.

For example, the eNewspaper is posted early each day and is a complete electronic replica of the printed News-Messenger. It can be read on cellphones, laptops, desktop computers and electronic tablets such as the iPad and Kindle Fire.

In addition, all print subscribers have access to every electronic edition of the more than 200 newspapers in the USA Today network, including the Columbus Dispatch, the Detroit Free Press and the Cincinnati Enquirer.

“The transition from carrier to Postal Service delivery will ensure we can provide a more consistent experience for our valued subscribers,” said Michael A. Anastasi, VP of Local News for Gannett. “We also encourage readers to visit us regularly on our digital platforms, as well as to access our eNewspaper, a digital replica of the newspaper at thenews-messenger.com/eNewspaper.”

We appreciate your willingness to adapt to this change and are confident that readers will enjoy the consistency and timelessness of same-day delivery of their daily newspapers by the U.S. Postal Service.

If you have any questions or need assistance accessing the eNewspaper, please contact Customer Service at 1-877-424-0217. If you feel you want to cancel your subscription, which you can do at any time, please contact Customer Service. If you decide to cancel, any remaining balance on your subscription account will be refunded after delivery ends.
