News-Messenger to be delivered by U.S. Postal Service beginning Oct. 16.

The Fremont News-Messenger will begin delivering its print newspaper through the U.S. Postal Service beginning with the edition of Monday, Oct. 16. The Saturday, Oct. 14 issue will be the last print edition delivered by newspaper carriers.

“We are committed, as always, to producing the best local journalism and the best print newspaper possible,” said Editor David Yonke. “We believe the move to mail delivery will help ensure that our readers receive their newspapers on a consistent and reliable basis.”

The switch to distributing the newspapers through the mail is in response to the ongoing challenges that make delivery by traditional carrier increasingly difficult.

Despite our best efforts to recruit and retain newspaper carriers, offering increased compensation and signing bonuses, print delivery by carrier has not met the high standards we set for serving our customers.

To that end, we will be partnering with the U.S. Postal Service to deliver the News-Messenger on the day of publication along with your regular mail.

We appreciate your understanding and adapting to the change. For some readers, this is an opportunity to read the eNewspaper more regularly. This electronic replica of the printed News-Messenger is available early in the morning and is included with all subscriptions to the newspaper.

As a News-Messenger subscriber, you also enjoy free and full access to more than 200 eNewspapers in the USA Today network, including the Columbus Dispatch, the Detroit Free Press, the Cincinnati Enquirer and the Akron Beacon Journal.

Subscribers also receive a daily email newsletter each morning that provides news, sports and features highlights, with links that take you directly to the online articles.

There will be no reduction in the number of print editions. The News-Messenger will continue to be published in print from Monday through Saturday.

There will be no change in subscription rates with the switch to mail delivery.

If you decide to cancel, any remaining balance on your subscription account will be refunded after delivery ends.
