FREMONT - The Ohio Associated Press Media Editors have announced newspaper finalists for articles, photographs and digital reporting for 2022.

The News-Messenger received notification that several staff writers will receive honors in several categories during a spring awards ceremony. Trophies and certificates will be presented for first through third places. The News-Messenger is in Division 1, which is a group of publications in Ohio with circulations between 2,000 and 8,000. There were nearly 40 publications competing in Division I.

“Our team of journalists does a great job every day,” said David Yonke, editor of The News-Messenger and News Herald. “I’m proud to see them recognized by the APME for these prestigious awards.”

Veteran sports writer Matt Horn is a finalist in two categories — Best Sports Columnist for his body of work in 2022, and Best Sport Feature for his "Michael K. Bosi series" on top local high school athletes.

Sheri Trusty, a longtime correspondent for the Fremont and Port Clinton newspapers, is a top candidate for Best Feature Writer.

Daniel Carson is a finalist for "Best Digital Project" and "Best Video" for his work done at the News-Messenger last year.

Specific places for each category will be announced at the Ohio APME Awards luncheon on May 7 at the Villa Milano Banquet and Conference Center in Columbus.
