NEWS FROM THE NEST: Lady Eagles on unbeaten journey in soccer

It’s a busy, noteworthy week for Oklahoma Wesleyan University sports.

Following are some highlights.

——

WOMEN’S SOCCER

After knocking off John Brown University, 2-0, earlier this week, the Lady Eagles climbed Wednesday to their highest-ever national ranking (No. 8) in the NAIA Women’s Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll.

OKWU (5-0) climbed one rung from last week’s No. 9 spot.

In the win against John Brown, Joelle Mesiter and Tania Mocholi each scored a goal, both off assists from Laura Maria. Goalie Nerea Perez Nora made three saves for her fifth-consecutive shutout.

VOLLEYBALL

OKWU veteran hitter Lauren McKinney earned Attacker of the Week honors from the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.

She recorded 31 kills, made only four errors in 63 attacks, provided five digs and contributed seven block assists during the week.

The Lady Eagles are 18-1.

OKWU will play this Saturday at Haskell (Kan.) University. It’s next home match is at 1 p.m. on Sept. 24 against Sterling.

MEN’S SOCCER

Despite a spate of tough results, the Eagles remained in the top 20 in this week’s NAIA Men’s Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll.

The Eagles (1-3-1) were voted to the No. 16 spot.

But, that result also ended an impressive chapter in the team’s history. Prior to this poll, the Eagles had been ranked in the Top 10 for 72-straight polls, going back to 2015.
