NEWCOMERSTOWN — The second “Second Saturday” on Main Street in Newcomerstown on July 9 followed up on the success of the first Second Saturday in June with a good crowd, good music and good weather.

Second Saturday is a series of events put together and promoted by Newcomerstown Now, a volunteer non-profit group dedicated towards improving Newcomerstown’s downtown area. The downtown is closed for a few hours on the second Saturday of each month through September.

Officials from the group said, “Newcomerstown Now would like to thank everyone who came to the Second Saturday event. Big appreciation to the Newcomerstown Elks, which provided 100 seats and five tables as well as the Senior Center for an additional 12 tables. A lot more people were able to sit down and enjoy talking to friends and neighbors because of this. We would also like to thank the 13 volunteers who donated their time to help our organization with the jobs we needed such as setting up and cleaning up, and seven spots in the beer/wine garden. We will always need volunteers to help, but we don’t want to burn people out by asking the same people all the time. So if you think you help one evening out of the year, we welcome your presence. Our next Second Saturday is Aug. 13. See you there!’

Music for the July event was provided by Micah Kesselring, 28, who hails from the Hocking Hills area. A professional musician since the age of 15, Micah has played over 1,000 shows across the United States and internationally. Micah has opened up for blues legends such as Robert Cray, Keb’ Mo’, Corey Harris, and many others. Micah’s music has been featured on Sirius XM, B.B. King’s Bluesville, in Guitar Player Magazine, on the TV show “Songs at the Center” and in the book “Blues On Beale Street”.

Library Annex painted

The Newcomerstown Public Library’s Annex has been painted this summer.

Painting has been accomplished after several years of planning, budgeting, allocating funds and dedication by Library Director Cody Addy, Fiscal Officer Karen Morrison, the maintenance staff and the Board of Trustees.

The Library Board noted, “Projects like this take time and determination, especially for libraries. Without our community's dedication to the library, this wouldn't be possible. Thank you!

“Many hours of legwork, research, phone calls, meetings, estimates, selection of colors, etc. went into this process. Thank you to all that were involved, especially our Director Cody Addy, Maintenance Chris Jones, and Bradford Painting. Additional maintenance, repair, and touch-ups to come, but we are nearing the finish line. We hope our wonderful community is as pleased as we are with the results.

“Additionally, we're planning a couple more surprises in the near future.”
