News-Topic shifts to thrice weekly

Jan. 27—RUTHERFORDTON — Beginning Feb. 14, News-Topic will transition to a thrice-weekly publication.

In an effort to reduce costs and remain economically efficient, the News-Topic will be publishing on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Moving to three days per week, however, will not mean less news content or the loss of regularly featured elements. The new coverage will remain the same. In fact, each edition will likely be bolstered with more content than when distributed two additional days.

"We are repackaging how we deliver the news and advertising," said Lori Spurling, publisher. "Our readers will continue to receive the same level of local news on these publication days."

News will continue to be posted online at thedigitalcourier.com on a daily basis; therefore, the News-Topic will in effect remain daily for those who read the newspaper online. All print subscribers automatically qualify for access to the paper online.

By repackaging the newspaper's local news presentation and eliminating two print editions, including distribution costs, Spurling said subscribers will receive the same level of local news and sports coverage they've always enjoyed without having more substantial price increases.

"No one will miss any of our regular features," Spurling added.

Obituaries that would normally be printed on Wednesdays and Fridays will be placed online on the day received and then published in the following day of publication.

Customers that have prepaid for their subscription will receive the same number of weeks they have paid for.

Spurling said she remains confident readers will understand and appreciate the News-Topic's efforts to keep home subscription rates competitive.

The News-Topic has been serving Caldwell County since 1875
