East Moline shooting victim identified

UPDATE: Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustason told Our Quad Cities News a victim in an East Moline shooting has been identified as Damion L. Hall, 40, of Rock Island.

An autopsy was performed Monday in Rockford, he said, and preliminary findings are that Hall had a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The investigation continues with the Rock Island County Coroner’s Office,  East Moline Police and with the assistance of the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation Division.

EARLIER: A man found by police early Sunday with a gunshot wound and later died of his injuries at the hospital.

The East Moline Police Department responded to a 911 call around 6:32 a.m. in the 200 block of 16th Avenue. Officers discovered a man inside with a gunshot wound and administered life-saving measures until the fire department and EMS took over. The man was transported to Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus by ambulance, but was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Detectives are investigating and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation unit is processing the scene. The identity of the victim will be released by Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson once the family has been notified.

Police say preliminary investigations suggest that the incident is “isolated with no ongoing threat to public safety.”
