1 killed, 1 charged after police chase ends in crash involving FedEx truck in Iredell County
IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — One person is dead and another has been charged following a police chase that ended in a crash near I-40 in Iredell County, North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed with Queen City News.
The incident began just before 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, when a trooper stopped to check on two people who were replacing a flat tire on a silver Hyundai Elantra on I-40 East.
During their conversation, both people provided false identities to the responding trooper. It was soon discovered that the passenger may have been a wanted person.
While confirming the outstanding warrants, the responding trooper asked that the two remain at the scene. However, both people fled in the vehicle.

The trooper followed the vehicle as it sped east on I-40. The driver, identified as Ridge Raeshaun Gay, 27, of Fayetteville, took Exit 150 toward NC-115, then crashed into the back of a FedEx truck that was stopped at a light on the exit ramp, Highway Patrol said.
Gay was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger, identified as Keonte Shakir Forney, 28, of Fayetteville, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gay was eventually released from the hospital and charged with the following:
Felony flee to elude arrest
Felony death by vehicle
Reckless driving
Drive while license revoked
Fail to heed to light and siren
Fail to stop for a steady red light
Failure to reduce speed
Fail to maintain lane control
The driver of the FedEx truck was treated and released at the scene with minor injuries.
