10-Year-Old Boy Takes the Wheel After Diabetic Grandfather Has Medical Emergency While Driving

Local police are honoring Drake Linn for stepping up when his grandfather needed it the most

A 10-year old is being hailed a hero after he took the wheel when his grandfather experienced a medical emergency.

On July 15, Drake Linn “was in a pickup truck towing a boat when his grandfather, who was driving, suffered a medical emergency” on Interstate 75, according to a Facebook post on Gordon County Sheriff's Office in Calhoun, Georgia.

Fortunately, police said that the boy "was able to take control of the truck and boat and drive it safely to the roadside."

Then, he "called 911 and provided precise information for first responders.”

In a transcript of the boy's 911 call, which was obtained by local station Atlanta News First, Drake told the dispatcher “my grandpa is a diabetic! I pulled him over! I pulled him over on the side of the road.”

Speaking with the outlet, the boy said there was a lot of worries "going through my mind," but luckily it all "worked out perfectly."

As for how he knew what to do, his family told the station that it was likely "because of his time on the farm.”

Sheriff Mitch Ralston called Linn an “extraordinary young man who took a dangerous situation and made it safe for him and his grandpa” in his interview with the local station.

As a way of honoring the youngster, the Gordon County Sheriff's Office awarded Linn with a Citizen Service Award and an Atlanta Braves cap and shirt along with four tickets to an upcoming Braves game.

"So proud of you Drake," read a comment on the department's post, while another simply wrote, "That's amazing."
