UPDATE (1:21 p.m.): Today’s crash that closed I-10 westbound lanes in Crestview has turned deadly, News 5 has learned.

“We sadly report the young driver of the crash passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital,” a Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson said.

A 20-year-old man was driving an SUV west on I-10 around 8:30 a.m. when the vehicle left the road and hit a tree, according to FHP.

“The vehicle came to a final rest wrapped around the tree with the driver entrapped,” an FHP news release said.

UPDATE (11:52 a.m.): The Florida Highway Patrol has released new information about a crash that happened on I-10 in Crestview Tuesday morning.

FHP officials said an SUV was traveling westbound on I-10 around 8:30 a.m. when it left the road and hit a tree.

“The vehicle came to a final rest wrapped around the tree with the driver entrapped,” read the FHP news release.

The 20-year-old man who was driving the SUV suffered from serious injuries, according to FHP.

The roadway was cleared around 11:15 a.m.

CRESTVIEW, Fla. (WKRG) — The westbound lanes of I-10 near mile marker 60 in Crestview are shut down after a serious crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP officials said units are on I-10 after a serious crash “involving a vehicle vs. a tree with extensive extrication.”

Traffic from I-10 is being diverted at the 70-mile marker onto State Road 285.
