12th tornado confirmed from Monday night storms in Chicago area

The number of confirmed tornadoes from Monday night’s severe weather in the Chicago area is now 12.

The National Weather Service announced Wednesday an EF-0 was confirmed in Crest Hill to Lockport.

Additionally, NWS now says the tornado confirmed from Channahon to Frankfort was an EF-2. It was initially confirmed as an EF-1.

As of 3 p.m. on Wednesday these are the confirmed tornadoes and locations, according to NWS:

  • EF-0 Sugar Grove to North Aurora

  • EF-0 Crest Hill to Lockport

  • EF-0 Southern Winnebago county

  • EF-0 Byron

  • EF-0 Davis Junction

  • EF-1 Yorkville to Naperville

  • EF-1 Justice 2.1 miles

  • EF-1 Near West Side Chicago

  • EF-1 Chicago Lawn to West Englewood

  • EF-1 Cedar Lake to Crown Point, IN.

  • EF-1 Minooka to Joliet

  • EF-2 (previously rated EF-1, upgraded by NWS) Channahon to Frankfort

The National Weather Service also posted on Twitter that surveys are still being completed and most crews are still in the field and will likely continue Thursday.
