13 injured in Montgomery mass shooting

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WKRG) — A shooting at a party in Alabama’s state capital left nine people with gunshot wounds and four people injured as a result of trying to flee from the chaos.

According to Montgomery’s Police Chief John Hall, their officers responded to the intersection of North Pass Road and Alabama River Parkway, and noticed two people suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene.

“At 1:48, MPD was dispatched to the shots fired call,” Hall explained. “At 1:50, that call was changed from shots fired to a subject had been shot, and in the first MPD officers arrived at 1:55, so it was a seven-minute response time from the time the calls came into the call center until we had MPD on site over in North Pass.”

He said during a press conference that those two were taken to the hospital, and the remaining seven gunshot victims took themselves to the hospital.

Four other victims suffered with injuries he said; three people were injured due to a pedestrian and car accident and one other person was injured by broken glass.

Chief Hall said that 350 shell casings were recovered.

The FBI and ATF are assisting Montgomery Police with their investigation, and Mayor Steven L. Reed says he’s upset to see another act of gun violence harm people in his city.

“We are certainly looking for who really perpetrated this crime, not only on the victims, but also on the entire community,” Mayor Reed said. “This is something very serious, and we are concerned about those who have been injured. Our sympathies go out to them and their families, but we’ve got to make sure that in our city, there’s a greater appreciation for life. There’s a greater appreciation for conflict resolution, and there’s a greater appreciation for de-escalating situations without pulling the gun.”

According to Hall, all injuries from Sunday’s shooting are non-life-threatening.

The motive is unknown, and no suspects are in custody.
