15-year-old boy shot, killed in Chicago’s Grand Crossing neighborhood

CHICAGO — A 15-year-old boy was shot dead Wednesday in Chicago’s Grand Crossing neighborhood.

Police took a person of interest into custody.

The medical examiner has identified the teen as Phillip Mitchell.

According to police, just after 5:40 p.m., officers responding to a ShotSpotter alert found in the 7100 block of S. King Drive found the 15-year-old with a gunshot wound to the head.

First responders rushed Mitchell to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
