19-year-old in critical condition after crashing into water main box in west Las Vegas valley

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A teenager is in critical condition after crashing into a water main box in the west Las Vegas valley.

On Sunday just before 11:10 a.m., Metro police responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash in the area of South Grand Canyon Drive and Mariner Cove Drive near Sahara Avenue and Hualapai Way.

Evidence at the scene and witness statements showed that a Dodge Challenger was driving northbound on South Grand Canyon Drive at a high rate of speed. Police said he lost control of the car and ran off the road, crashing into a water main box.

Police said the 19-year-old driver was unrestrained and was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
