19-year-old suspect arrested in Lubbock teen's shooting death

A 19-year-old was arrested Friday evening in connection with a shooting that left a 16-year-old dead July 1 in north Lubbock.

Christopher Acevedo II was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center after he was arrested shortly before 7 p.m. Friday on a charge of manslaughter in connection with the shooting of 16-year-old Rudy Romo Ramirez, according to a statement from Lubbock police.

Officers responded about 12:44 a.m. July 1 to the 2500 block of Cornell Street following a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located Romo-Ramirez with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.Through the initial course of the investigation, it appears Romo-Ramirez was with a large group of individuals when the shots were fired. The individuals within the group who were present at the time of the shooting fled the scene prior to officer’s arrival.

Following multiple days of investigation by the Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit and the Lubbock Texas Anti-Gang Center, investigators were able to obtain enough evidence to secure a warrant for Acevedo. He was taken into custody about 6:58 p.m. Friday in the 800 block of Main Street without incident. He was transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center where he is held on a $300,000 bond.

It was not immediately clear how officials linked Romo-Ramirez to the shooting or what prompted the violence as the investigation is ongoing.
