2 killed, 3 children critical in Chicago shooting

CHICAGO (WGN-TV) — Five people were shot, two fatally, Thursday morning on Chicago’s South Side.

Police said officers responded to a home on South Woodlawn Avenue around 6:15 a.m. for reports of multiple people shot.

Upon arrival, officers located five gun shot victims and began administering first aid.

Police said a 42-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. A 24-year-old woman was taken to the hospital were she was pronounced dead.

Several injured in separate shootings overnight in Chicago

Family members have identified the women as Capri Edwards and her aunt Nakeeshia Strong.

Police said three children – ages 5, 7 and 8 – were also shot and are in critical condition at the hospital.

Family members told Nexstar’s WGN two of the children belong to Edwards. The 8-year-old is the child of Strong.

Police said two vehicles drove up to the home and multiple people got out of the vehicles and fired at the home.

Police believe it started with a “personal dispute.” The investigation is ongoing.

As of Thursday morning, no one was in custody.
