According to a press release from the Utah Department of Public Safety, one eastbound vehicle — a 2004 Dodge Intrepid — was slowing down to turn left onto a residential road.

Officials said a truck behind the Intrepid — an eastbound 2019 Ford F250 — did not slow down, collided with the back of the Intrepid, and pushed it into oncoming traffic.

“The Intrepid was pushed into the oncoming lane where it struck a 2017 Toyota Corolla that was traveling westbound,” the press release said.

Officials said the occupants of the Intrepid died, and the three other subjects involved in the incident were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The identities of the deceased have not been released.

According to the press release, officials are investigating “possible driver distraction” as a factor.
