2 people, 4 pets displaced by house fire in Silver Spring

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — A family was displaced by a house fire in Silver Spring on Sunday evening.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews were dispatched to the 17000 block of Barn Ridge Drive at around 5 p.m. Firefighters found a garage on fire in the area.

Two adults and four pets were helped out of the home, and are now displaced.

Crews put out the fire by 6 p.m. No one was hurt, MCFRS officials confirmed.

About 50 MCFRS firefighters responded to the scene and there were no reported injuries.

In an update, David Pazos, with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services, said the fire caused about $600,000 in damages to the building and destoryed about $200,000 worth of contents inside.

The fire remains under investigation; however, Pazos said the cause might have been electrical.
