2 restaurants closed in Plano inspections. Rodent droppings & fruit flies found at others

Two Plano restaurants were temporarily closed for serious health violations during the June 23 to July 6 health inspections, and fresh rodent droppings were found at another, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.

H BBQ Chicken at 2001 Coit Road received a nearly perfect score of 99 on June 25 but was required to close after the inspector found around 30 live insects in the establishment. Pest control technicians treated the premises and the restaurant was cleared to reopen June 26.

The Park Bar and Grill at 6509 W. Park Blvd. scored 77 on June 28 and was closed by the city until two coolers and an air conditioner could be repaired. The temperature inside the restaurant was 91 degrees at the time of the inspection. The walk-in cooler registered 53 degrees and the reach-in cooler 78 degrees.

The city of Plano scores restaurants and other business that serve food on a 100-point system. A score of 100 is considered a perfect score and 70 is extremely poor. No restaurants scored below 70 and only two, including The Park Bar and Grill, scored below 80.

Plano Subzi Mandi at 6921 Independence Parkway scored 79 on June 24. The inspector found fresh rodent droppings on the ceiling tiles below the second-floor storage and equipment area and a mold-like growth on the walls of the produce preparation station.

Gnats, fruit flies or drain flies were found at several places to eat, including Terra Mediterranean Restaurant at 2405 Dallas Parkway, Taverna Legacy at 7400 Windrose Ave., The Brass Tap at 5805 Preston Road and Bottle Rockets at 5800 Legacy Drive.

Fourteen establishments received a perfect score of 100.
