2 killed in shooting near Exposition Park in Los Angeles

A gunman remains at large after two people were killed in a shooting near Exposition Park in Los Angeles Saturday.

The shooting was reported around 2 p.m. in the area of 1100 Browning Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The male victims were identified only as a 19-year-old and a 33-year-old.

They were sitting in their car along a residential area located near the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and USC campus.

Police said the men were possibly involved in an argument with the suspect. That’s when the gunman reportedly walked away and returned moments later to shoot the victims inside the car.

One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was rushed to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The suspect, who was wearing a brown jacket, black pants, brown shoes and eyeglasses, fled the scene in a white, older model sedan, police said.

Detectives said the victims frequented the neighborhood and one of their girlfriends reportedly lives nearby. The suspect was possibly an acquaintance of the victims.

The fatal shooting and heavy police presence left residents in the area on edge.

“The sad thing about it is that the family came out a few minutes after and they just started yelling and crying hysterically,” said Christopher Mallory, a neighbor. “It was sad to see one girl crying real loudly.”

Homicide detectives are speaking to witnesses in the area and gathering footage from nearby surveillance cameras.

“We have a lot of CCTV in this area for us to take a look at,” said Michael Lorenz, LAPD patrol captain. “The video footage is giving us a lot of good evidence right now.”

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear but detectives do not believe it is gang-related. The gunman remains at large.

Anyone with information can call the LAPD’s Southeast Station at 213-972-7828.
