OAK BROOK, Ill. — Felony charges have been filed against two women accused of stealing from a west suburban department store before leading police on a high-speed chase.

32-year-old Asia Wallace and 24-year-old Kayshanda Outlaw, both Zion residents, have each been charged with one count of burglary and one count of retail theft. Outlaw is also facing an additional count of aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer, according to DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin.

Prosecutors say the charges stem from an incident that allegedly unfolded at a Macy’s in Oakbrook Center on Saturday afternoon.

Authorities say they were initially called to the department store just after 3:30 p.m., following a report of a robbery in progress.

According to prosecutors, while in the store, Wallace and Outlaw allegedly picked out several pieces of children’s clothing and left without paying for them.

Prosecutors say the items that were allegedly stolen by Wallace were valued at around $625.50 while the items that were allegedly stolen by Outlaw were valued at around $839.15.

After leaving the store, prosecutors say the two women got into a silver Hyundai Sonata, with Outlaw at the wheel, and attempted to flee the scene.

As the duo allegedly attempted to make their escape, a responding Oak Brook officer attempted to block them from exiting the store’s parking lot, but Outlaw allegedly sped off, sideswiping the officer’s vehicle as she navigated toward the exit.

After leaving the parking lot, officers began a pursuit, heading northbound along Route 83. After exiting Route 83, the pursuit allegedly continued eastbound on Butterfield Road before Outlaw lost control of the vehicle and crashed into another car at the intersection of Butterfield Road and Prospect Avenue, prosecutors said.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was later taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

According to police, during the pursuit, Outlaw allegedly reached speeds of around 90 mph.

After crashing the car, prosecutors say both women allegedly fled from the vehicle on foot but were caught by authorities a short time later.

“This is another example of criminals having the false belief that there are no consequences for their criminal actions when they flee from the police,” Oak Brook Chief of Police Brian Strockis said in a news release on Monday.

During a court appearance on Sunday, the court denied the state’s motion to detain the two women pre-trial.

Both women are set to appear in court again on July 29 for arraignment.
