20,000 plus without power in Northwest Louisiana following Beryl related storms

Hurricane Beryl made landfall Monday, bringing severe weather to Northwest Louisiana.

This disturbance brought with it tornado like conditions and the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a tornado watch that will remain in effect until 10 p.m. July 8.

With this severe weather Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) customers have reported power outages across northwest Louisiana.

At 4:30 p.m. SWEPCO reported more than 20,000 customer outages and 220 outage cases.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, hazardous weather will remain in the area until Tuesday, July 9.

A wind advisory will be in effect until 1 a.m., flood watch will be in effect until July 9 afternoon and the tornado watch will be in effect until 10 p.m. this evening.

SWEPCO posted an update on its site Monday afternoon stating:

"With ongoing confirmed tornadoes across the ArkLaTex service area, there have been impacts to our energy delivery system. As a result, additional outages could occur until SWEPCO’s transmission system is stabilized. Customers should prepare to be without service for an extended period. Our teams will be working as soon as possible to safely get the power restored."
