TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — More than a dozen people were treated after a “bug bomb” fell off a shelf inside a Florida Publix on Monday morning.

The incident occurred inside the Publix located on Babcock Street at Palm Bay Road. According to Palm Bay Fire Rescue, crews were called to the store for reports of a “chemical smell” in the building.

The store was evacuated and 20 people were treated for “respiratory ailments.” They were later released with no lingering health issues, fire rescue said.

The grocery store was ventilated and the fumes diminished. No one was taken to the hospital.

According to PBFR, the bug bomb activated once it hit the ground.

The Publix has since reopened.
