3 Republicans for US Senate, Paul Tittl challenged by Dave Wage. Here’s what to know about the Aug. 13 primary in Manitowoc County.

MANITOWOC COUNTY – Several state assembly seats representing Manitowoc County will be featured on the ballot for the partisan primary election Aug. 13.

Because of the changes in Wisconsin legislative maps, people may reside in a different assembly district than the last time they voted. Those maps can be checked at legis.wisconsin.gov.

Polls will be open for the primary election 7 a.m.-8 p.m. on election day Aug. 13. Voters can check their polling place and more election information including a sample ballot at myvote.wi.gov.

Republican candidates battle it out for U.S. Senate race

Eric Hovde, Charles Barman and Rejani Raveendran are running in the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate race against incumbent Tammy Baldwin.

Baldwin is the only Democratic candidate in the race and is uncontested in the primary partisan ballot. She has held her seat since 2012.

The seat for Congressional District 6, which represents a central eastern portion of Wisconsin, is also contested. Incumbent Glenn Grothman, a Republican, is running against challenger John Zarbano, a Democrat. Grothman has held his seat since 2015.

One Republican candidate challenges Paul Tittl for Assembly District 25

Paul Tittl, from Manitowoc, is running to keep his seat for Wisconsin Assembly District 25, which he has held since 2013. He is challenged by Republican candidate Dave Wage from Manitowoc.

The winner of the Republican primary will face Democratic candidate Stephen Welch from Two Rivers.

District 25 now encompasses a majority of the shoreline through Manitowoc County, including the cities of Manitowoc and Two Rivers.

Two Republicans vie for Assembly District 27 seat

Republican candidates for Wisconsin Assembly District 27 are Lindee Rae Brill from Sheboygan Falls and Brian Hilbelink from Oostburg.

The winner of the Republican primary will face Democratic candidate Kay Ladson from Fond du Lac.

District 27 represents Kiel in Manitowoc County, as well as portions of Sheboygan and Fond du Lac counties.

Candidates in Assembly districts 2 and 3 are uncontested for primaries

In Wisconsin Assembly District 2, incumbent Shae Sortwell from Two Rivers is the only Republican candidate, and challenger Alicia Saunders from Kimberly is the only Democratic candidate.

District 2 represents the northern part of Manitowoc County, including Mishicot and Francis Creek.

In District 3, incumbent Ron Tusler from Harrison is the only Republican candidate, and challenger Jason Schmitz from Menasha is the only Democratic candidate.

District 3 represents a western portion of Manitowoc County, including Valders and St. Nazianz.

All county-level races are uncontested

Manitowoc County District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre is up for election and is the only candidate on the ballot.

There are three county-level seats up for election in the fall — county clerk, county treasurer and register of deeds.

Incumbent Jessica Backus is the only candidate for county clerk and incumbent Kristi Tuesburg is the only candidate for register of deeds.

Kathy Reissmann is the only candidate for county treasurer. She was recently appointed to the role after Amy Kocian resigned, and will serve for the remainder of Kocian's term.

Ballots will feature two referendum questions on appropriation powers of funds

Voters will be asked to vote "yes" or "no" on two proposed amendments to the state constitution, regarding limits on the governor’s appropriation powers of funds.

The first reads, “Delegation of appropriation power. Shall section 35 (1) of article IV of the constitution be created to provide that the legislature may not delegate its sole power to determine how moneys shall be appropriated?”

The second reads, “Allocation of federal moneys. Shall section 35 (2) of article IV of the constitution be created to prohibit the governor from allocating any federal moneys the governor accepts on behalf of the state without the approval of the legislature by joint resolution or as provided by legislative rule?”

When can I vote in the upcoming primary election?

The primary election will be Aug. 13 and polls will be open 7 a.m.-8 p.m.

People who are voting by absentee ballot must make sure their ballot request is received by the municipal's clerk's office by Aug. 8, and their ballot must be received by the same office by Aug. 13.

People can also choose to vote using an early in-person ballot if available at their municipal clerk's office.

The fall election is set for Nov. 5.

How do I register to vote?

People can register to vote in person at their municipal clerk's office or online at myvote.wi. In-person registration can also be done at the polls Aug. 13.

To register, people will need to provide proof of residence in the form of their driver's license, a bank statement, utility bill, etc.
