30-year-old Northern California man drowns in Modesto Reservoir, sheriff’s office says

(FOX40.COM) — A 30-year-old man from Modesto died on Saturday afternoon from drowning in the Modesto Reservoir, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.

The agency said they received the call about a man in distress at the waterway around 12:21 p.m. before responding to the area and finding the man minutes later at 12:29 p.m.

The man was immediately taken to shore where deputies began administering CPR. The man was later taken to the hospital where medical staff declared him dead, the sheriff’s office said.

He was later identified as a 30-year-old man from Modesto and taken to the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office where officials said an autopsy would be conducted to determine the cause of death.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim during this time,” the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office said.

The agency reminded the community that wearing a life jacket, moderating alcohol intake, and swimming with someone else who can help you at a moment’s notice are all water safety tips that could save your life.

The drowning on Saturday comes about four days after a 37-year-old man from Oakland died in the same reservoir from drowning while swimming with his family on Tuesday.
