4 homicides, 5 dead after violent 24 hours in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Five people are dead and four separate homicide investigations have been launched after a violent 24 hours around Charlotte.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to the latest homicide investigation around 1 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, near 3800 Statesville Avenue in north Charlotte. One person was found inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. There is no mention of a suspect or an arrest at this time.

Also overnight, a death investigation took place outside the Wyndham Garden Hotel in south Charlotte. Another homicide took place in west Charlotte Monday night on Parker Drive after a quadruple shooting around 9 p.m. on Parker Drive. A 29-year-old was killed in the shooting and the injured victims included a 17-year-old, according to the police report.

Another homicide investigation took place at an apartment complex Monday around 5:30 p.m. on Cinnabay Drive in north Charlotte and involved a deadly shooting. The first homicide investigation took place around 5 a.m. on Monday near Rea Road. The victim in that case has been identified as 36-year-old Derrick Byas.

No other victims have been identified in the cases yet, there is no mention of any arrests in the cases, and all remain active investigations.
