4.9 earthquake in California felt in Las Vegas: reports

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — An earthquake in California Monday afternoon could be felt in Las Vegas, according to reports.

The quake, which, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, measured 4.9 and occurred at approximately 1 p.m. Initial reporting indicated that the quake centered just northeast of Barstow, California, approximately 156 miles southwest of Las Vegas.

8newsnow.com sister station KTLA reported that there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries as a result of the earthquake.

A smattering of folks in the Las Vegas valley reported feeling the quake on social media, including Brian Kip, who said, “Just felt an earthquake in Las Vegas!”

Michael Rutchland felt it as well, saying, “An earthquake just hit us while driving our Tesla to Las Vegas in the desert. Tesla FSD saved us from injury.”

KTLA reported that the quake was followed by several significant aftershocks measuring 3.5 and 2.7. Reports indicate that the impact was felt across a wide swath of Southern California, including metropolitan Los Angeles.
