42-year-old woman dead after crash with car fleeing Warren police

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido is expected to update the public on charges Tuesday as Warren police also speak out following a fatal police pursuit in Warren over the weekend.

Police previously said a pursuit of suspected drag racers ended with a suspect vehicle striking an uninvolved one, killing a 42-year-old woman.

About 1:35 a.m. Saturday, two Warren police officers in the area of 8 Mile and Ryan roads spotted three Dodge Chargers speeding on westbound 8 Mile and tried to conduct a stop, police said in a news release.

None of the suspect vehicles stopped, and officers pursued two of the cars, police said.

Then, on 10 Mile Road west of Dequindre Road, one of the suspect Dodges struck a Jeep Cherokee, police said.

The 42-year-old killed was a passenger in the Jeep, police said. The driver of the Jeep, the driver of the involved Dodge and two passengers in that Dodge were taken to the hospital and listed in stable condition. The Dodge driver, a 26-year-old man, was in custody at the hospital.

One of the other Dodge Chargers returned to the scene, police said. The remaining Dodge driver was still being sought on Saturday.

Further information was expected to be released in the joint press conference noon Tuesday at the Warren Police Department.

Several vehicle pursuits by Warren police have ended in a fatality since December.

In December 2023, police reported a suspect fleeing a stop on an expired license plate crashed while driving through a red light, according to Fox 2 Detroit.

In May, police reported a suspect fleeing a stop for speeding rolled their vehicle as police began to end their pursuit, according to WXYZ Detroit.
