65-year-old woman critically wounded during argument overnight on Far Southeast Side

A 65-year-old woman was left in critical condition Monday night after being shot during an argument in the East Side neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Around 10:40 p.m., the victim was involved in an argument with someone she knew in the 4000 block of East 134th Street when the person she was arguing with pulled out a gun and fired shots, police said.

The woman suffered gunshot wounds to the left elbow and abdomen, and was taken to UChicago Medicine where she was listed in critical condition.

A handgun was recovered from the scene and the shooter was taken into police custody. Detectives continue to investigate.
