JOPLIN, Mo. — Weeks of book work and job training has paid off for the latest group of Joplin Police officers.

Seven new officers received their official JPD badge during a pinning ceremony held Thursday afternoon (7/18) at the Joplin Public Safety Training Center.

Each new officer was introduced and welcomed to the department by Police Chief, Dr. Richard Pearson.

Families of the officers had the honor of pinning on the new police badges.

One of the new officers was Jeremiah McGough. His dad, David, is a detective with JPD, and pinned on his son’s first law enforcement badge.

“Having to follow in his footsteps, I mean it’s a big shoe to fill, but I feel like it’s manageable, I feel like I can do it, but for him to be there through everything, it’s the best thing I could ask for, it’s wonderful,” said Officer Jeremiah McGough.

“It’s a pretty proud moment, I don’t feel like I ever pushed him to get into law enforcement, I didn’t really expect him to get into law enforcement but when he told me, it was pretty cool to hear,” said Detective, David McGough.

After the badge pinning ceremony, the group of seven took an oath of service before officially becoming officers with the Joplin Police Department.
