83-year-old suspect shoots, kills 1 at Florida Gold and Diamond store: police

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida jewelry store shooting left one person dead and a suspect hospitalized Friday, officials said.

Just before 1 p.m., Daytona Beach police responded to the shooting at the Gold and Diamond store, located at 536 West International Speedway Boulevard.

12-year-old girl charged with murder, accused of suffocating 8-year-old cousin in bed

Officials said John Craiger, 83, entered the jewelry store and approached an employee, who was behind the counter, and got into a verbal argument.

Craiger pulled out a firearm and shot the victim, police said.

A nearby witness pulled out their firearm, shooting Craiger, while another witness struck Craiger in the head with an object from behind.

Officials said Craiger suffered several gunshot wounds and a laceration to his head. No witnesses were injured.

Missing Florida siblings believed to be in danger, authorities say

The victim was taken to a nearby medical center where they were later pronounced dead.

Craiger is being charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
