Metro Transit police officer shoots carjacking suspect, Arlington County police say

ARLINGTON COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Police in Arlington said a person was seriously hurt Friday morning after being shot by a Metro Transit Police officer.

The shooting happened shortly before noon in the Rosslyn area. The Arlington County Police Department (ACPD) said the Metro Transit Police officer was involved in the shooting after a series of carjackings.

The suspect was taken to a hospital with serious injuries from the gunshot wound.

ACPD said the suspect carjacked someone at N. Nash Street and Fort Myer Drive. The Metro Transit Police officer noticed the incident and confronted the man, who exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

The officer chased after him and the suspect tried carjacking another person at N. Kent Street and 19th Street N. when the officer discharged their weapon, hitting him.

Police said there are no outstanding suspects related to the incident and the investigation is ongoing. As of 1:15 p.m., the suspect was still hospitalized and receiving medical treatment.
