Statewide agencies brace for Beryl’s impact

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Many statewide agencies are standing by and waiting to help Texans who may be impacted by Tropical Storm Beryl.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who is acting governor while Gov. Greg Abbott is overseas, held another news conference Sunday afternoon regarding preparations for Beryl’s landfall in Texas.

“We are now at 120 counties in the disaster area,” Patrick said. “You need to listen to your local officials as well as your local forecast for where you live.”

More than a dozen statewide agencies will respond to the storm’s aftermath. This will include the American Red Cross, the Texas Department of Transportation, Texas A&M Forest Service and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

“Our number one mission in the state, your local mayors and your local county judges and officials is to save your life,” Patrick said.

Chief of Texas Emergency Management Nim Kidd stressed that many Texans will experience power outages as the storm passes over the state.

“We’ve been in contact with every county judge along the Texas coast and their emergency management teams. Our agency has people in their emergency operation centers, we have prepared search and rescue teams, and emergency medical support teams,” Kidd said.

“Make sure that all of your devices are charged up that your phones are charged up your computers are charged up and that you have fuel in your vehicles,” he continued.
