Albuquerque police charge 3 suspects in October 2023 murder

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department charged three suspects for the murder of a woman in October 2023. Brandy McManus was killed outside her home near McMahon and Unser during an attempted robbery. APD said one of the suspects shot McManus while the other two fired at a neighbor who confronted them.

APD arrested 32-year-old Joseph Montoya and 28-year-old Austin Wilkins on Thursday. Kristopher Darling, 24, was already in jail for other charges. All three were charged with murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and tampering with evidence.

APD said they tracked phones used by the suspects which led them to a gun that matched the gun used in the shooting. They said evidence showed the suspects planned to steal a gun.
