Albuquerque Sunport says tech outage has impacted flights

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) –  The Albuquerque International Sunport says a global technology outage has impacted flights at the airport on Friday.

The outage is linked to an update issued by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike and affected customers running Microsoft Windows. As a result, flights were grounded around the world, banks and hospital systems went offline, and many other entities were impacted.

Risk-averse organizations chose CrowdStrike for cybersecurity. Now its software is causing chaos

CrowdStrike said a fix is on the way Friday. In the meantime, the Albuquerque International Sunport is asking people to check with their airlines for the latest information on flights before coming to the airport.

“Luckily the Sunport has been not nearly as affected as other larger markets,” said Leah Black, Albuquerque International Sunport outreach and marketing manager. “We were affected and we will continue to be affected, but, we’re starting to stabilize and there will be some delays because of this outage. The system has slowly been coming back up across the country.”
