Amarillo Rainbow Room's annual School Supply Drive underway

It is that time of year again: The Amarillo Rainbow Room kicked off its annual “School Supply Drive” benefitting CPS-involved children and families on July 15, and the collection period for donations will continue through Aug. 31.

“We feel every child deserves the opportunity to have the supplies they need to be successful and confident in school,” said Jennifer Sugg, Amarillo Rainbow Room Coordinator. “We’re asking the community to help with donations of backpacks, pencils, paper and more.”

DFPS Rainbow Rooms are emergency resource rooms located at Child Protective Services that assists children and families in crisis situations. Community Partners of Amarillo - through the Rainbow Room - supplies diapers, formula, clothing, school supplies, cleaning supplies, cribs, toddler beds, etc. to children and families in crisis situations.

Children often enter the foster care system with nothing but the clothes they are wearing and caseworkers may be summoned during the night to rescue a child or help a family escape an abusive situation. Something as seemingly simple as a small toy or blanket can provide immense comfort to a child experiencing trauma. The Rainbow Room can provide these types of items. When a crib can be provided for a child sleeping on the floor or with a caregiver, then we can help ensure that child's safety and therefore save a child's life. Sometimes removal of children from their homes can even be prevented. We need your support to help meet the needs of the abused and neglected children of this community.
