American Dream mall stabbing began as argument with fiancé. What the court records show

An American Dream employee arrested in a stabbing at the mall complex over the weekend allegedly attacked his fiancé over a conversation with another man, according to an affidavit of probable cause obtained by NorthJersey.com Monday.

Raquan Howard, 29, of Jersey City was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon with unlawful purpose and criminal mischief in the stabbing. The victim, a 28-year-old man whose name was redacted from the affidavit, had multiple large cuts to the back of his neck and left arm as well as superficial puncture wounds to his head and torso, the affidavit stated.

Police officers responded to a reported fight in progress at parking deck A of American Dream Saturday and quickly located the victim, the affidavit stated. The victim was taken to Hackensack Medical Center, while Howard was later found in an adjacent parking lot.

The victim stated in a hospital interview that Howard is his fiancé and both of them work at American Dream, according to the affidavit. He then said the two got involved in a physical altercation due to the victim talking to another man.

The victim told police Howard damaged his work computers by pushing them off the desk during the altercation. The two then began arguing throughout the mall to the ride share section of lot A, where Howard took out a fixed blade pocketknife and began stabbing him, according to the affidavit.

Howard was taken to the Bergen County Jail following the attack and is awaiting a detention hearing.
