Is another heat wave on the way for NJ? See the latest forecast details

Following a beautiful weekend and start to the week in North Jersey, the remainder of this week is looking to be hot and humid with the possibility of showers and thunderstorms.

"Today will be dry for the most part, maybe an isolated shower late this afternoon," said Jay Engle, meteorologist with the National Weather Service. "It's going to be very warm and humid throughout the week and turning more hot as we get into Thursday and Friday."

Here is everything you need to know about the forecast for the rest of this week in North Jersey.

Chance of showers and thunderstorms

Showers and storms will be possible in North Jersey over the next couple of days, according to Engle, with the most unsettled period expected to take place between Tuesday night and Wednesday.

The rest of Tuesday will be dry for the most part with the potential for some isolated showers late in the afternoon.

North Jerseyans can expect a 60% chance of precipitation from late Tuesday night throughout the day on Wednesday and a 20% chance of showers Wednesday night before 2 a.m., according to the NWS.

Per Engle, Thursday and Friday will see less unsettled weather but it may try to return over the weekend.

Localized flooding possible in NJ

"Any stronger storms could produce some localized flooding," said Engle. "We're not overly concerned. The threat seems to be limited and localized at this point for late tonight and tomorrow."

High heat and humidity

In the wake of the potential showers and storms, North Jersey can expect another bout of high heat and humidity on Thursday and Friday.

"It will be similar to the heat wave that we had a few weeks back," said Engle. "Probably temperatures in Northeast New Jersey from the low to mid 90s with dew points near 70."

The heat index on Thursday and Friday are expected to be between 95 and 100 degrees with the potential for a real feel of 95 as early as Wednesday, according to Engle.

This heat comes only a few weeks after the state's last heat wave which catapulted the heat index into triple digits.
