Antioch police search for man who stole nearly $500K of jewelry from JCPenney

(KRON) — The Antioch Police Department is searching for a man who stole nearly $500,000 of jewelry in June.

Surveillance video (above) shows the man smashing glass cases with a hammer in the city’s JCPenney before reaching inside to snag the goods.

The theft happened at 10 p.m. on June 15. JCPenney is located at 4951 Slatten Ranch Road in the Empire Crossing Shopping Center.

The store appeared to be empty at the time of the crime. Police said the suspect entered the store at 8:25 p.m. and hid out for more than an hour and a half before striking.
