Arkansas bracing for Tropical Storm Beryl

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — Arkansas officials are bracing themselves for the effects of Tropical Storm Beryl, which caused heavy damage from the Caribbean to Texas.

High winds and heavy rain have hit Texas as Tropical Storm Beryl pushes inland, leaving millions without power.

With its close proximity to Texas, Arkansas officials are gearing up for what is to come.

“It looks like the path is in the northeast trajectory,” DeWayne Rose said. “We are going to experience rainfall and the northwest says we could see some isolated tornadoes.”

As the West Memphis Emergency Management Director, Rose said West Memphis is ready for the remnants of Beryl’s rampage.

“We always make sure that all of our ESP (Emergency Services Personnel) are up to speed and know current weather conditions,” Rose said. “We are prepared, just like we are every day.”

While officials are ready, Rose told WREG that it’s also important for residents to be ready.

That includes doing things like filling your gas tank, charging your phone in case of power outages and enabling emergency notifications.

“Text West Memphis to 91896 and it will allow you to opt into our ‘text my gov’ system,” Rose said. “That is a communication tool we can use to keep our residents up to date.”

Through parts of Mexico and the Caribbean, Tropical Storm Beryl has already cut a deadly path.

“We do need to be mindful and be aware and not let our guard totally all the way down,” Rose said.
